The project

THE VEGETATION REVOLUTION project born as an utopic and fantascientific documentary strictly bounded to the environment and urban habitat themes with the object to tell for which reasons, in which conditions and for which costs the urban, economic, cultural and anthropological revolution has took place.

The documentary is an obvious consideration about environment and sustainable development but it would also be a way to question about utopia also intended as the human capacity to project his future in a visionary way. 

The movie is an example of science-fiction documentary:

  • set in the future it’s talking about the present, analyzing the problems and contradictions through images of today, proposed as if from the ‘repertory’ of yore;
  • shows a futuristic Turin by means of a compositing between real and virtual images where the buildings are in symbiosis with the vegetation and public transportation vehicles are designed for a ‘vegetable city’;
  • tells how and why it was decided to carry out such a radical, utopian and visionary plan, how the technical problems were resolved and above all, how much the entire project costs (becoming itself a ‘filmed project’ of viability;
  • a collection of poetic/philosophical interventions by great cultural figures of international renown who reflect in an involving way about the big economical, political, social themes that the project want to raise.

The project is now in a phase of development: it has the support of the european program MEDIA, of PIEMONTE DOC FILM FUND and it is in coproduction with FARGO FILM.

In 2008, in occasion of the show TO11 BIOGRAFIA DI UNA CITTA’ (runned up into Officine Grandi Riparazioni), it’s been realized a first demo of the project as a video-installation on 3 screens where the director DAVIDE FERRARIO, as a speaker, recounts about a future vegetal transformation of Torino.
The demo contains also a serie of interviews collected thanks to some international personalities from science and cultural world as, for example,VANDANA SHIVA.

During 2009 has been established the Scientific Council of the project.

Always in 2009, in collaboration with the project called ‘Laboratorio Città Sostenibile’ of Città di Torino, it’s been realized a laboratory in two primary schools about the idea of vegetal city, in which childrens have builted some models and have ‘vegetalized’ a big image of the city.

On 25th of september 2009, THE VEGETATION REVOLUTION has been presented to the Cittadellarte/Fondazione Pistoletto of Biella inside the exhibition called BEST - Bio Ethical Sustainable Trend.

THE VEGETATION REVOLUTION participated in UNIAMO LE ENERGIE (LET’S UNITE ENERGY), the convention organized by the Piedmont Region that was held in Turin on Oct. 7 - 11, 2009, and presented an event entitled CONFERENCE ON THE VEGETATION REVOLUTION as well as two video-installations entitled THE TOUGH CITY AND THE UTOPIAN CITY.
